Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) Installation Design

This white paper addresses the design of connection details in SIP (structural insulated panels) using code approved ASSY SK screws. Due to the typical thin facings of either 7/16″ or 5/8″ load transmission in shear or wind uplift applications is rather challenging. The thin facings yield limited capacity and the lack of guidance in existing design codes consumes much engineering time. ASSY SK screws in 1/4″ and 5/16″ diameter are equipped with a large washer head of 9/16″ or 7/8″ diameter resulting in higher head pull through resistances and help reduce over-driving of screw heads deep into the facings.
