The new Brookhaven City Centre is a landmark project showcasing the city’s vision for a more sustainable and community-centered future. As one of the first mass timber municipal buildings in the area, this four-story structure covers approximately 56,030 square feet above a below-grade parking facility, bringing the total footprint to 99,590 square feet. Designed to achieve WELL and LEED certifications, it underscores the potential of mass timber to redefine modern public buildings with both beauty and sustainability.

This impressive municipal building will house administrative offices, city council chambers, and a range of public amenities. The inclusion of an atrium, a rooftop garden, retail and restaurant spaces, event facilities, and a catering kitchen demonstrates a commitment to fostering a vibrant, multi-functional community space. Approximately 60% of the building will be open for public use, creating a welcoming environment for residents to engage, connect, and experience city government in action.

The striking three-story atrium with a central skylight forms the heart of the building, allowing abundant natural light to flood the interior. The mass timber structure, visible throughout, highlights both the aesthetic warmth and structural capabilities of the engineered wood material, setting a new standard for architectural beauty and sustainability. By incorporating exposed timber and utilizing innovative design techniques, the project achieves faster on-site assembly, enhanced carbon sequestration, and long-term durability.

Mass timber’s ecological benefits align seamlessly with Brookhaven’s broader vision for urban revitalization. The project serves as a testament to the evolving role of municipal spaces, emphasizing the integration of public service functions with sustainable, community-oriented design. As a model for future developments, Brookhaven City Centre exemplifies how thoughtful, innovative construction can drive positive change and establish a new architectural benchmark in the Southeast.

Mass timber construction, already gaining momentum across North America, proves that even large-scale projects can prioritize environmental responsibility without sacrificing utility or visual appeal. Brookhaven City Centre will undoubtedly become a case study for how such structures can enrich the urban landscape while positively impacting the lives of those they serve.
