Notch Reinforcement Design USA

Notched beams experience stress concentrations which may exceed specified capacities of the beam. In these areas a combination of stresses may require beam reinforcement. Reinforcement can be applied using self-tapping full thread ASSY VG screws. It is assumed that a check or split has already occurred in the corner of the notch and the entire transverse shear force occurring in the lower portion of the beam is to be transmitted through an axial force component in the screw. In longitudinal direction of the beam only one screw row shall be taken into account.
